Mark Arthur - Managing Director

Mark has more than 17 years’ experience in the global aerospace and defence industry. His successful delivery of profitable growth and complex projects in advanced technology businesses has led to substantial client and industry recognition. Mark joined Ferra Engineering Australia as Managing Director in April 2015 and since then has managed Australian business activity and has overseen Ferra’s ongoing international expansion into the United Kingdom, The United States, and India.Mark is responsible for leading Ferra’s major military and civil aerospace programs, and as well as Ferra’ latest expansion into new sectors including land and sea, supporting Defence Australia.  

Prior to joining Ferra, Mark worked with Airbus Group Australia Pacific for 8 years. Most notably, Mark successfully lead the production, inspection, ground test, flight testing, and delivery of the Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter (ARH Tiger) and Multi Role Helicopter (MRH90) Programs for the Royal Australian Navy and the Australian Army. Under his leadership, his production organisation became widely recognised as the leading military production facility within the Airbus Group globally.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Deakin University, and an Executive Masters of Complex Program Leadership from Queensland University of Technology.

Aaron Thompson - Director

As the Portfolio Director, Aaron has full P&L responsibility for the structures portfolio which is spread across the Brisbane, United States and Indian sites. Customers include The Boeing Company, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, GE Aviation, BAE Systems, Raytheon, and Thales. Aaron, along with his team, have successfully secured and executed major contracts through the development of initiatives and strategies to provide the customer with best value.

Aaron currently leads the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) Extended Range (ER) wing kit program, which is a joint project between the Commonwealth of Australia, The Boeing Company and Ferra.

Aaron’s career began in the  Australian Army. During this time Aaron oversaw the operational service of S-70 Blackhawk aircraft type in East Timor and most notably, received a number of awards for his service to Australian Army, including: the Australian Active Service Medal (AASM), Australian Defence Medal & United Nations Medal. In addition to his role at Ferra, Aaron is the immediate past President for the Australian Industry and Defence Network (AIDN) Queensland chapter.

He also possess formal qualifications in materials management, defence strategic procurement and management of government operations, and has completed the in-residence Program Management Workshop at the Boeing Leadership centre in St Louis.  Aarons also holds an Executive Masters of Business (Complex Program Leadership) from Queensland University of Technology.

Karl Strauss - Director

Karl is a strategically thinking leader focused on the critical elements of differentiation and competitive advantage: quality, service, cost competitiveness and innovation.

As Director, Karl has a demonstrated effectiveness in building high performance teams, delivering new manufacturing capabilities and facilities – while exceeding the company’s targets and the customers’ expectations and time-lines. He is an experienced international business leader with full P&L responsibility of multiple facilities.

Karl has dedicated his career  two decades of his career in the precision engineering and manufacturing sectors at the forefront of Australian industry. For the past twelve of those years, Karl has been dedicated to the Aerospace & Defence sectors.

Karl holds both a Bachelor of Medical Engineering and an Executive Masters of Complex Project Management (EMCPM) at the Queensland University of Technology. This program focuses on Systems Thinking approach and the complexity of major programs and global business of today.
