The VentrAssist® LVAD is a new third generation implantable blood pump primarily designed as an alternative to heart transplantation for people with heart failure. It may also be used for patients waiting for heart transplants as a bridge to transplant or as a bridge to recovery.

PathFinder is a high value complex robotic instrument that automatically identifies, splits and sorts Pathology specimen tubes into analyser racks or storage racks.The supplier partnership enables Ferra and the design engineers to work together in the design and selection of critical components and materials that are so important for world class manufacture, product reliability and cost reduction. Precision components manufactured for the A.i Scientific range of products includes high grade stainless steels, aluminium and a range of plastics. All parts are subject to rigorous inspection by Ferra and supplied on a Kan Ban basis just in time for Ai Scientific's production schedule.
Ferra is also proud to be an integral part of Ellex's manufacturing supply chain. globally, more than 12,000 Ellex lasers are used to treat patients with sight-threatening conditions. Originally an OEM supplier for other leading ophthalmic companies, Ellex now has its own complete line of lasers used by ophthalmologists to treat glaucoma, cataract and retina conditions.The parts manufactured are of various complexities and demands with specific functions that have not only required expert advice on materials, manufacturability, but also consistent repeatability. The rotating zoom cylinder is a challenging assembly.

A client identified a design requirement on current market Cranio-maxillofacial implant plates. The concept was to address flaws and improve performance in existing designs in the areas of :
• Stress shielding
• Skin Erosion
• Possibility of corrosion
• Inadequate fixation
• Some Biodegradable material types lacked appropriate strength, toughness and others would degrade too quickly causing tissue reactions or took too long to degrade.
• A more efficient screwdriver to perform 'one step' insertion.
By identifying the problems, the concept entered the New Product Development (NPD) phase. This led to a close relationship with Ferra - to provide full support, flexibility and an understanding - to guide the customer through the design concept for manufacturability, without compromising its true functional design. Prototypes were tested and methods pioneered in machining fine titanium sheets leaving all edges smooth and rounded. On such fine work, careful planning from CAD/CAM was fundamental for economical production of prototypes and future production runs; to maintain quality and consistent repeatability and to streamline product ready time for market launch by customer.
Test and approvals will be according to Therapeutic goods Administration (TgA) and Société générale de Surveillance (SgS) standards.
Ferra assists in final package design to house and protect the integrity of the final medical devices suitable for product launch/market penetration.
